Summer is for cycling!

Summer always means hot days, great for being at the beach or anywhere on or near the water. Happily, the climate in East Gippsland also includes a regular sprinkling of cooler days. As I type, the max temps over the next few days from January 3rd to 8th are 30, 40, 23,22, 26 and 30.

So a suggested timetable of activities if you are heading to East Gippsland over summer might include: 1. Cycle the East Gippsland Rail Trail from Bairnsdale to Lakes Entrance, including the side branch Gippsland Lakes Discovery Trail 2. Go for a paddle at Lakes Entrance with our mates at Venture Out Australia - hire a kayak of SUP from them. 3. Chillier day? Head out to Buchan to visit the Buchan Caves Reserve and go underground. Also an excellent option on the Really Hot Days. 4. Cycle through to Nowa Nowa back on the East Gippsland Rail Trail, and reward yourselves at Mingling Waters Cafe. 5. Cool off in the Lake Tyers at the back of Nowa Nowa, or hire a kayak to paddle around again. 6. Cycle through to ORbost - taking in a couple of the magnificent timber rail bridges along the way. 7. Swim in the clean waters of the Snowy River - take the little trail along the river for the best swimming spot about 1 km downstream from town. 8. Go to Marlo to paddle or swim. SUP Marlo will look after you with a SUP - if the sun is just shining too much, go for a moonlight paddle with them.
