Nowa Nowa Long Weekend

Spend the March long weekend in Nowa Nowa and cycle the East Gippsland Rail Trail!

STOP PRESS! THIS WEEKEND IS NOW FULLY BOOKED. Let us know if you would like to be contacted for similar weekends in the future.

The tiny village of Nowa Nowa has miraculously survived this terrible summer of bushfires, but was left empty of visitors over it's usual busy summer peak time. This long weekend is a great time to come and support them while exploring the East Gippsland Rail Trail from the convenience of a fixed base. Stay 2 nights in Nowa Nowa, and we will shuttle you and your bike back each day after 3 great days cycling covering the whole East Gippsland Rail Trail plus the Discovery Trail. The Rail Trail was largely unaffected by the fires, as were the towns along it so beautiful farmland and forest scenery awaits you as always.

  • Just $235 per person for twin or double share accommodation.
  • Three share to a room / cabin is $208 per person.
  • Four share is just $195 per person.
  • Prefer to have your space all to yourself? Still just $325.

This special one off package includes 2 nights accommodation in Nowa Nowa plus return shuttles on three days. To support the town of Nowa Nowa, we are providing our transport at a greatly reduced price so this is a fantastic time to explore the rail trail this way. The package includes route maps and notes, and if you have any difficulties along the way we won't be far away to provide some assistance.

What's special about Nowa Nowa?

You can whiz through Nowa Nowa on the Princes Highway and hardly notice it, but stay a little while and there are some beautiful little treasures waiting to be found:

Nowa Nowa means "the mingling of the waters", and it's best kept secrets are it's lovely lake (the end of Lake Tyers) and the walk along the freshwater creek that flows into it. Follow the path up along the little gorge for a journey into a different world. Nude sculptures, jumping fish ( at the right time) and a warm spring are probably some of the things you aren't expecting to see...

'Mingling Waters' is also the name of the cafe and caravan park. Not only do they serve up outstanding food and coffee from breakfast through to the afternoon, they do so with smiles that have been undiminished by the recent harrowing summer. You can hire a kayak from here to explore the lake too.

The cafe is also home to the Ramsdell Wood collection. The huge ( really, I mean huge) flared root mass that has been polished into exquisite detail is nothing short of extra ordinary, and is just one of a number of beautiful nature / human art collaborations.

More food: Nowa Nowa Bistro is the place to slake the end of day thirst and hunger. Country sized portions, cooked with love. What better?

More food and other good things: the Nowa Nowa General Store is where you want to go to stock up on along the ride snacks, evening snacks, breakfast snacks, not to mention pretty much everything else.

The Depot: possibly the best collection of tea cosies I've ever seen, plus numerous other crafts. You can also get a cup of tea ( served of course, with a tea cosy), coffee and huge cookie or similar here.
