The Journey Ahead

This isn't just a bike tour - it's a true Australian adventure.

The loop takes you deep into East Gippsland's spectacular back country: sealed and gravel back roads, farmland, forest and high country, following the Snowy River from Orbost and back again. Hand-picked country accommodation, hearty meals, and local support never far away.

Highlights

McKillops Bridge, a true engineering marvel

Victoria's deepest Gorge

Wildlife - koalas, platypus, kangaroos, kookaburras and more

Sweeping views from Tulloch Ard Lookout

Day by day

The journey

Stays • Orbost • Buchan • Gelantipy • Deddick • Goongerah

Set off from Orbost into the valley, with a mid-morning tea stop along the road. Arrive in Buchan. Dinner at the Buchan Caves Hotel.

Climb out of Buchan as the morning fog lifts. Morning tea at W Tree Falls, keeping an eye out for koalas along the way. Lunch at Karoonda, with a side trip to Tulloch Ard Lookout. Five-course dinner at Karoonda Park.

Morning tea at Little River Falls, then on to Little River Gorge. Descend to McKillops Bridge with the option of a swim in the Snowy River. Overnight near the Deddick River - no reception or TV, just cards by the fire.

A mix of gravel roads and lush green country through the rain shadow area. Lunch at Bonang Hall, then the sealed Bonang Road down through ferns and waratahs into Goongerah.

The final day, a smoother ride back to Orbost to reflect on the five days through the Snowy River region.
