The escape

Leave Melbourne behind on Friday morning and by lunchtime you'll be in East Gippsland, ready to explore.

We've put together this two-night escape for people who want to enjoy a few days away without having to organise all the details.

You'll ride part of the East Gippsland Rail Trail, discover the beautiful forest trails leading to Lakes Entrance, enjoy a night in a country pub and another by the coast, before finishing with a relaxing morning at Metung Hot Springs.

We'll organise your accommodation, luggage transfers and transport connections, leaving you free to explore at your own pace.

Your weekend

Bairnsdale · Nicholson · Bruthen · Lakes Entrance · Metung

Catch the morning train from Melbourne to Bairnsdale, where we'll meet you and transfer you to Nicholson to begin your ride.

Follow the East Gippsland Rail Trail through farmland and bushland towards Bruthen, around 20–22 km.

Settle into your accommodation at the Bruthen Inn, where your luggage will be waiting. Enjoy the afternoon exploring this lovely country town before heading to the pub for dinner.

After breakfast, collect your packed lunch from the local bakery and head off towards Lakes Entrance.

Today's ride takes you through the Colquhoun Forest and along the Gippsland Lakes Discovery Trail, passing historic quarry sites and winding bush tracks before reaching the coast.

With around 36 km of riding, there's plenty of time to stop along the way.

Once you've arrived in Lakes Entrance, the rest of the afternoon is yours. Take a walk along Ninety Mile Beach, grab a drink overlooking the water or find a local restaurant for dinner.

We'll collect you from Lakes Entrance and take you to Metung Hot Springs for a morning soaking in the geothermal pools overlooking the Gippsland Lakes.

Afterwards, we'll transfer you to Bairnsdale railway station for your afternoon train home.

A little adventure, plenty of fresh air and a weekend well spent.
